If the final legitimate bill for services is higher than the customer can afford to pay, a moving company generally has two options. First, the moving company at their discretion may extend credit to the customer by delivering the property and billing the balance at a later time. Alternatively, the moving company may exercise their carrier's lien by refusing to deliver and placing the property into storage until the bill is paid. If a customer's property has been placed into storage the final bill will be increased to cover the cost of storage and re-delivery. If the legitimate bill remains unpaid the moving company may eventually sell the property at public auction.
